DDoS Alert: Defying the RustDesk Server Attacks
RustDesk has established itself as a noteworthy open-source alternative to established remote access solutions such as TeamViewer, AnyDesk, or Microsoft Remote Desktop. In the past, we have already reported on the advantages and functionality of RustDesk. However, users are currently facing a challenge: RustDesk's public servers are disrupted.
It's important to know that these servers are not actually designed for the permanent use of large user groups, but rather for testing or occasional access. In the last few weeks, both of RustDesk's public servers have been the target of DDoS attacks, significantly limiting their availability. And the disruptions continue to this day.
However, for those who seriously consider RustDesk as an alternative for remote access, there is a viable solution: With a few adjustments, you can set up your own RustDesk server at Hetzner Online (see guide). This not only offers the advantage of a more stable and reliable connection but also increases security, as no third-party servers are involved in communication with customers – an aspect that is particularly important in the business environment. At Hetzner, there is a suitable, slim cloud server available from as little as €4.50 including VAT per month.
