Guide: Replacing the Cabin Air Filter in the NIO EL7 Yourself

A climate air filter, also known as a cabin air filter, ensures that the air entering the vehicle interior through the ventilation system is cleaned of pollen, dust, dirt particles, and in some cases even odors. While the NIO EL7 or ET7 is still a relatively rare Chinese vehicle on German roads and workshop availability is limited, replacing the air filter is something you can easily do yourself.
The appropriate replacement parts can be ordered quickly and conveniently through NIO Support – fast, reliable, and tailored to your vehicle.
When should you replace the air filter in the NIO EL7?
An air filter plays a crucial role in removing pollutants such as dust, pollen, soot, fine particles, and other contaminants from the outside air before it enters your vehicle’s interior. Over time, however, the filter becomes clogged with exactly these particles – reducing its effectiveness and noticeably decreasing the air quality inside the car.
A dirty or clogged filter can even become a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and allergens, which are then released into your breathing air when the climate control is turned on. This poses a serious risk, especially for allergy sufferers, children, or people with respiratory conditions.
Regularly replacing the air filter not only ensures clean, fresh air inside the cabin but also contributes to long-term well-being during every drive.
Replace the air filter in your NIO yourself – it’s that easy!
Before you begin replacing the air filter in your NIO EL7, you should order a suitable replacement filter through NIO Support. You will also need the right tool to remove the plastic clips that hold the trim parts under the hood in place.
The air filter box is located in the center, just in front of the windshield on both models, so the center cover must be removed first. The plastic clips have a specific mechanism: first, use a small prying tool or screwdriver to gently lift the center part, then the entire clip can be pulled out. After reassembly, the clips can simply be pressed back in with your finger.
Once the cover is removed, you will see the air filter box. It has small tabs that can be released by gently pressing them down to remove the lid. The old filter can now be carefully pulled out. When inserting the new filter, it may help to slightly bend it and insert one corner first – since the space is a bit tight, this makes installation easier. The filter box cover is guided into place at the bottom by small prongs and then securely closed again using the tabs.
