Why the Slate 7 Pro is the perfect travel companion
One of the biggest advantages of a dedicated travel router like the Slate 7 Pro is the seamless connection of multiple devices. Whether in a hotel, on the train, in the café or with public Wi‑Fi – you connect the router once to the unfamiliar network and all your devices (laptop, tablet, smartphone, smartwatch, etc.) are automatically online, without having to accept captive portals each time.
I find the combination with Starlink Mini particularly practical. The router takes over the connection and ensures stable distribution in the camper, in the holiday home or on the go. Thanks to multi-WAN failover, it automatically switches between different connection sources as needed.
Mobile hotspot as feed-in: simple and reliable.
One of my favorite features: simply connect the iPhone (or another smartphone) via USB-C and use it as a WAN source. The first time I had to restart the iPhone; after that the tethering connection worked immediately and stayed stable. The Slate 7 Pro recognizes the phone as an Internet source and reliably distributes the signal to all connected devices. Perfect when the hotel Wi-Fi is weak or when you want to save data usage.
Integrated AdGuard Home AdBlocker: A Game Changer
The integrated AdGuard Home support is simply super practical. Once activated, the router blocks ads, trackers, and malware network-wide – without having to install separate apps on every device. Especially when traveling, where you often use unfamiliar networks, this saves you the hassle and noticeably increases security.
The configuration is simple; for me it was activated with one click. The ad blocker runs locally and is very resource-efficient.
File sharing on the go: just plug in a USB SSD or USB stick
Another feature: The USB 3.0 Type-C port allows you to connect an external SSD or a USB stick and share files over the local network (e.g., via Samba). Ideal for photographers, videographers, or simply for sharing documents between laptops, tablets, and other devices: everything can be used without cloud storage and without the Internet.
Powerful VPN: Security and Freedom
The Slate 7 Pro shines with ultra-fast VPN:
- Up to 1100 Mbps with WireGuard
- Up to 1000 Mbps with OpenVPN-DCO
- Built-in Obfuscation (obfuscation) to bypass VPN blocks in hotels or restrictive networks
Support for over 30 VPN providers plus Tailscale and other protocols makes it a versatile all-rounder. Whether for secure banking, accessing corporate networks, or simply unlocking content: everything runs smoothly.
Especially practical when traveling to countries where certain content or websites are blocked.
My conclusion after the first day.
The GL.iNet Slate 7 Pro (GL-BE10000) is currently one of the most powerful and well-thought-out travel routers on the market. Wi-Fi 7, a touchscreen for quick configuration, strong VPN performance, AdGuard Home, and USB file sharing make it a true all-rounder for digital nomads, travelers, and anyone who needs stable and secure Internet connections on the go.
If you travel a lot, are on Starlink, or simply want a professional network in a compact form, you'll be well supported here.
